TUESDAY JUNE 16th... YES MOVIE!!!

Tomorrow we'll be showing a very intense movie from Paraguay, called "Siete Cajas" ('Seven boxes').

Synopsis: Everything has a price in "7 Boxes". You want something? You better have something to trade, be it information, money (hard to come by), or one of those nifty new cell phones with a video camera. "7 Boxes" takes place in a 48-hour period within the sprawling Byzantine maze of a Paraguayan market. Everyone knows everyone. It is 2005. Cell phones are still a novelty, let alone ones that can take pictures and videos. You could do anything if you had one. They are currency. You can't get anything in this world, drugs for your sick child, a girlfriend, a cell phone, without currency. "7 Boxes" is both a tense and frightening crime film as well as a sometimes-dreamy evocation of life in the sprawling underclass, its hallucinatory aspects, its chaos and violence, its fantasies.

Synopsis: This Argentine drama focuses on Alicia (Norma Aleandro), a high school history teacher who is leading a comfortable life with her husband, Roberto (Héctor Alterio), a businessman with ties to the military, and their adopted daughter. When Alicia begins to wonder about the identity of the little girl's birth parents, she finds herself suspecting that her daughter may be the child of people abducted or killed by the government's brutal crackdown on leftist groups.

Tomorrow night we will enjoy a great Argentinean Comedy starring Natalia Oreiro, Daniel Hendler and Imanol Arias.

Synopsis:  It's a classic all-out wedding between two particular individuals. Jewish-born Adrian (Daniel Hendler) and Catholic-born Leonora (Natalia Oreiro). Nothing can go wrong, or does it? The nervous groom commits a small mistake by misplacing both rings. Consequently, he has no better idea than to desperately delay the ceremony. These cannot get better, while both families deal with each other, ex's re-appear and both Daniel and Leonora go crazy in what it's suppose to be the most joyful day of their lives.

Tonight we will enjoy on of the latest Argentinean films which made it to the Oscars: Relatos Salvajes.

Synopsis: Inequality, injustice and the demands of the world we live in cause stress and depression for many people. Some of them, however, explode. This is a movie about those people. Vulnerable in the face of a reality that shifts and suddenly turns unpredictable, the characters of Wild Tales cross the thin line that divides civilization and barbarism. Synopsis: "At age 42, Rafael Belvedere is having a crisis. He lives in the shadow of his father, he feels guilty about rarely visiting his aging mother, his ex-wife says he doesn't spend enough time with their daughter and he has yet to make a commitment to his girlfriend. Tomorrow we will be showing "La viuda de los Jueves", hosted by Francisco García. This is a film co-produced between Argentina and Spain released on September 2009. The film was directed by Marcelo Pineyro and had as main protagonists Leonardo Sbaraglia , Pablo Echarri , Juan Diego Botto and Ernesto Alterio. I am sorry to announce that there's no movie night tomorrow night... sorry! BUT, instead I am happy to announce that the Argentine student association "Argentinos en Stanford" is organizing a big Argentine-Uruguay cultural day on this coming Sunday November 23rd.

This will be an occasion to know more about some aspects of Argentinean and Uruguayan culture with Folk dances, Art display by Argentinean painters, a Literature corner, some Tango, Music, a Barbecue (which will include a vegetarian option) and more!

Entrance is free, all you need to bring is a beverage (aka: something to drink and possibly share).
