CICLO DE CINE CHICANO
El pasado mes de abril se celebraba el
Cesar Chavez Day y en este mayo tendremos la fiesta del 5 de mayo.
Bajo este pretexto Cine Stanford quiere seguir abriendo caminos hacia
el cine latino dedicando un ciclo al cine Chicano. En lo que va de
año todavía nos habíamos programado ningún ciclo, acercarnos al
Cine Latino hecho en Estados Unidos nos parece una buena manera de
proponer el primero del año.
Es un registro que se vienen dando
desde finales de los años 60, pero es entre finales de los 90 y la
primera década del siglo XXI donde el cine Chicano ha dado un salto
espectacular y ha posicionado el cine Latino hecho en Estados unidos
en los mejores festivales independientes.
Sin alejarse de una crítica social
sobre las dificultades de lo que significa ser Latino en Estados
unidos, unido a los tabúes que la propia comunidad ha creado en su
comunidades, el Cine Chicano se muestra abierto a reflexiones, pero
pidiendo respeto y justicia y sus derechos como ciudadanos de este
país.
Nos iremos dejando llevar desde cine
mas reivindicativo sobre los derechos migrantes en este país hasta
historias cotidianas que reflejan como culturalmente la comunidad
latina se ha ido adaptando a su nueva casa.
El ciclo estará compuesto por las siguientes películas.

de mi sangre", by Christopher Zalla
- "Quinceanera", by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland
- "Un dia sin
Mexicanos", Sergio Arau's interesting Opera Prima.

ciclo, más cercano a nuestro entorno dado que muchas de las
películas han sido rodadas y ambientadas en California y conociendo
las reflexiones y puntos de vista expuestos en las películas desde
la comunidad Latina nacida en Estados Unidos.
CHICANO MOVIE SERIES
"Cesar
Chavez Day" last April and the upcoming celebration of "Cinco
de Mayo" bring CineStanford the perfect excuse to open new
avenues to the Latin Cinema by dedicating our first film series of
this year to the Latin cinema made in the US, the Chicano
Cinema.
Chicano Cinema origins date from the late
60's, but it is not until the 90's and the first decade of the
21st century when this cinema made a spectacular rise and positioned
Latin movies made by mexican americans in the best independent movie
festivals.
The chicano movies prompt us to a reflection on the
social difficulties that Latins face in the US, while asking for
respect, justice and equal rights as citizens of this country. We
will let ourselves be swept away by movies that range from strong
calls for immigrant rights to the everyday reality of Latin
communities adapting to their new home.
